今天是【見詞如面】第一次和大家見面，下面做一個簡單的介紹。
這個欄目開設的目的主要是幫助大家熟悉SAT閱讀的重點詞匯，專欄名稱的靈感來自最近很火的電視節目《見字如面》，寓意是：大家平日多積累，等到了考場，見到這些詞（大概率事件）的時候，就像看到老熟人老朋友一樣親切。
專欄每期將會以“點到為止”的風格介紹一個SAT閱讀重點詞匯，解釋含義、用法或考法，并配以相應文章或題目片段?！跋鄳恼隆敝饕x自可汗閱讀，盡量避開真題，因為目前真題有限，不希望提前“劇透”，讓大家?？汲煽兪д?。
文章將從今天開始推送，每月三期，連載到6月底結束。

第一期
Discretion
SAT詞匯中，discretion是一個既重要又偏難的詞，而且有兩個完全不同的意思。
根據Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary，兩個意思分別是：
1. the freedom or power to decide what should be done in a particular situation
自由決定的權力。我們經常在美劇開頭看到一句話“viewer discretion is advised”，意思就是影片可能含有敏感內容（尤指不適合小孩子的），是不是要看或者是不是讓小孩看由觀眾自行決定。
2. the quality of being careful about what you do and say so that people will not be embarrassed or offended
謹慎、審慎、謹言慎行，而且含有為他人著想的意思。作為這個意思使用時，discretion是形容詞discreet的名詞形式。
在可汗閱讀中，以上兩個意思都出現過。
可汗閱讀Literature L3P2 (The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne)
… "my master's orders were exceeding strict; and, as your worship knows, he permits of no discretion in the obedience of those who owe him service.
這里discretion是“自作主張”的意思，說主人的命令說一不二，不允許仆人有任何違逆之舉。
可汗閱讀Literature L4P1 (House of Mirth by Edith Wharton)
Her discretions interested him almost as much as her imprudences: he was so sure that both were part of the same carefully-elaborated plan.
這里discretion是“謹慎、審慎”的意思，用來描述女主身上具有的特質。
