2012年，伊麗莎白女王登基60周年。3月2日，女王在議會發表慶祝“鉆禧慶典”的講話。盡管女王從不試圖影響英國政治，但她本身就是英國傳統和凝聚力的象征。女王極具責任感的態度和出色的個人魅力，為一直處于爭議中的英國王室制度贏得不少認可。
